Mara shares her experience!

I visited Curaçao for the first time in February 2022 for a nice vacation.

On Social Media I had come across RPC. I decided to visit the Rescue Center. After my first visit and tour around the Center I had fallen in love with the island, and with all sweet dogs at the Center.

I really wanted to help and contribute. My first three weeks as a volunteer were great. I helped with the feeding, the cleaning, the walking, playing and socializing of the dogs. The dogs were so grateful and so sweet. Seeing those wiggling tales every time.

In November 2022 I came back to the island, this time for a period of three months. There were a lot of new dogs.

With two other ladies I build the Puppy Playground; The 3 Musketeers. I LOVE helping at the Rescue Center. You’re really bonding with the adult dogs and you see the puppies grow and go to their forever homes.

I also went swimming with the dogs, took them with me while I went out for lunch. Basically taking them to places so they get familiar with people and strange places. Socialization is very important.

My next trip is already planned for the end of 2023.

If you’re going to Curaçao, even for a shorter period of time, I really recommend spending some time at the Center and volunteering. The dogs are extremely grateful and it’s such a nice experience.

Marlies shares her experience!

From November 2022 on I spend 3 months on Curaçao for work. I worked 4 days per week so I had a free day to do something else. I always wanted to work with animals so I asked a colleague on Curaçao if she had any suggestions. She said “RPC”!

This was the best choice I made. When I think back to my time on Curaçao, I think mostly about my time at the Center. Such a nice, warm welcome from the volunteering team and all cute dogs! The stories about the dogs on Curaçao are rough, so it is nice to be able to contribute to a better life for the dogs on Curaçao.

From day 1 I helped with the cleaning, the walking of the dogs, cuddling them, socializing them and other things at the Center. In the beginning I went 1 day a week, soon it became 2 or 3 days a week. I even took time off from work to help at the Rescue Center.

I also created the “Puppy Playground” with two other girls. It was amazing. The dogs are so grateful, it is really touching.

In October the three of us are going back to Curaçao to help at the Center for a month, I can’t wait!

FAQ

What is the best accommodation if I want to volunteer at the Rescue Center and what about transportation?

Several accomodations are close to the Rescue Center and offer a great deal, such as Na Kas (belongs to restaurant E Lanternu) and Bamboo apartment from Rent Adventures Curaçao. We can help you get in touch with them. Also we can help getting you in touch with a contact who can help with student stays.

Regarding transportation, Na Kas provides a discout on a rental car. There are multiple car rental companies on the island, some offer to drop off/pick up the car at your accommodation.

You can also get a discount at Danny Car Rentel when you volunteer. Please see the contact details on their Facebook.

We also recommend the Blije Rust. Here you can see an impression. You can reach Renee Krekels on +31637440598.

Furthermore, the plane tickets are not covered by Rescue Paws. We are an organisation running on volunteers and donations. Therefore the plane tickets are not paid for by Rescue Paws.
